HOW IT BEGAN ...
When the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts they found the Indians cooking soft-shelled clams by a time honored method: steaming them over hot stones covered with seaweed.

The newcomers quickly took up the custom and, over the years, ingredients have been added to the basic clambake to turn it into a sumptuous feast fit for a king.

HOW IT EVOLVED ...
Today, with over fifty years experience, Martha's Vineyard Clambake Company
keeps that tradition alive.  Steaming hot creamy New England Clam Chowder
bursting with tender chopped  clams is now served to begin a clambake experience
you'll always remember.

Along with the steaming clams, we've added that popular and most succulent of all
shellfish -- juicy, sweet lobsters, mussels, fresh sweet corn, potatoes, linguica
(tangy, spicy Portuguese sausage) and little pearl, white boiling onions.

Wonderful tantalizing aromas rise on the wisps of steam as the tastes of corn, potatoes and onions are enhanced by the liquid from the clams, lobsters and mussels is steamed over them. They are then served with unlimited amounts of melted butter and lemon wedges, followed by cole slaw with our own piquant dressing and fresh rolls with butter.

That's not all... ice cold watermelon comes next and there's plenty of fresh brewed hot coffee too!

Martha's Vineyard Clambake Company can easily arrange and prepare a clambake for as few as 15 people
or more than one thousand people.
