THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PLANNING A CLAMBAKE:
THERE ARE A NUMBER OF ITEMS you should consider when planning a Clambake. We have listed some of these things
and some helpful hints to assist you in your preparation.
TYPE OF PARTY: Formal or Casual
If you are planning one of our fabulous clambakes as a Reception Dinner after a wedding, or as a dinner for your corporate Directors or major shareholders; as a special anniversary party (50th Anniversary, 75th Birthday, etc.) or something of a similar nature, then by all means, go ahead with the Full Service type function, otherwise the casual style event is probably your best choice
Where will your Party be Held? Will it be at your home or rental cottage, in a hall, or at the beach?
If you are planning a beach location, be sure to check with us to determine if your proposed beach is on the approved list. If it is a public beach, you may have to get permits from township or county authorities. Check out the available "Beach Permits Information" for more details
IF YOU ARE HAVING A BEACH PARTY,
YOU MUST PLAN FOR AN ALTERNATE
OFF-BEACH, LOCATION IN CASE OF BAD WEATHER.
How Many will Attend?
For a Casual Catered Clambake, we have been forced to institute a minimum price. We charge on a per-plate basis, and this minimum is the equivalent of 15 Adult Guests for parties on Mondays through Thursdays and the equivalent of 20 Adult Guests on Fridays through Sundays. We can cater your event for a smaller group but will be required to charge this minimum fee. There is no maximum limit. For smaller groups looking for a very casual experience, we recommend our fun and unique Clambake-to-Go
Reserving Your Preferred Date
There are certain dates that are ALMOST always booked up early. Among these dates are those around the 4th of July (particularly that weekend) and Labor Day weekend. You can also expect the first three Saturdays in August to be booked by mid-July at the latest.
WE SOMETIMES DO HAVE CANCELLATIONS,
so if you are booking late you can try
for the date you want.
To be guaranteed your date, however,
we very strongly recommend
making your reservation early.
THINGS YOU MAY NEED for YOUR CASUAL CATERED CLAMBAKE
A COOKING TENT
If the weather is predicted to be inclement, we will need either a 20x20 foot cooking tent with side panels or some place under cover to prepare food. This is needed whether you plan an indoor function or one outside. Your food and service items MUST be protected from wind, rain, etc. Some of the tent suppliers will allow you to reserve a cook tent instead of ordering it if your budget is tight. That way if the weather is sunny and calm, you can cancel the reservation and reduce the cost.
A TENT FOR YOUR GUESTS
As with almost all island resorts, Martha's Vineyard weather can be unpredictable.
If you are planning an outdoor event, then consider RENTING A TENT of the appropriate size to protect your guests from inclement weather. They also appreciate an open-sided tent out of the sun in good weather. Size the tent to comfortably accommodate your guests.
IF YOU RENT GLASS OR CHINA PLATES,
METAL CUTLERY AND GLASSWARE, AND EXPECT
OUR STAFF TO CLEAN AND REPACKAGE IT, YOU WILL
BE CHARGED FOR A FULL SERVICE PARTY
WHAT YOU MUST PROVIDE
ALTERNATE PLANS FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER
You are responsible for arranging alternate plans, if necessary, in the event of bad weather since we cannot accommodate 'rain dates'.
Your food must be protected from rain or wind during both preparation and serving. we are required to cook under cover if there is rain, strong wind or other forms of inclement weather. You must provide a cook tent for our use IF you do not have a protected area for cooking and serving. We reserve the right to order a cook tent, if needed, and charge it to your account.
TABLES AND CHAIRS
You provide any tables or chairs you might want. They are not usually needed for the 'picnic style' casual clambake and are definitely NOT RECOMMENDED for beach parties. Beach chairs are available to rent from suppliers on Martha's Vineyard
BEVERAGES AND BARTENDERS:
You should arrange to provide any alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages. We will be happy to recommend a bartending service for your event.
MUSIC, DANCE FLOOR, LIGHTING, etc.
You can discuss these optional items with us if you want them and we will be happy to make recommendations for you -- or you can click on the "Tents/Suppliers" hyperlink at the top of the this page.
